 > How Our Unique Search Service Transformed a CEO's Company and Life

Client Profile: Our client, the CEO and Founder of a global Asset Management company, was referred to EASearch by a former Venture Capital client. The VC client was reluctant to enter into a partnership with our Asset Management client until he hired a top level Executive Assistant who would effectively support him.

The Situation: Our client was the Founder and CEO of a rapidly growing company. He had become accustomed to managing everything himself. In addition, employees were accustomed to walking into his office at any time interrupting him and his train of thought. He often answered his own phone.   In addition to his role as CEO, he was a former Olympian sailor, Commodore of his yacht club, had two teenage children, was recently re-married, and had many other Board and civic commitments. He was exhausted and well on his way to burnout.

EASearch Solution: In order to determine what kind of support the CEO needed, EASearch conducted a thorough Assessment of both his short and long term needs as well as the wide variety those of the company as a whole. In addition, EAS interviewed all of the CEO’s direct reports, the operations and administrative staff, as well as his wife. This was done to determine exactly the kind of person, skill level, and experience that would most effectively support the CEO and integrate well with the existing staff of the company.

The Assessment revealed that the CEO had been self-sufficient for so long, that a critical quality in the new Executive Assistant would be that of one who understood how to extract information, tasks and responsibilities from the CEO. Our client’s self-sufficiency would be a habit which would take time to break. It would require a unique style and personality in an Executive Assistant that could instill trust so that the CEO would be willing to release responsibility.

Once the Assessment was complete, a thorough Position Specification was created. The process of candidate development began. Recruiting and advertising commenced.  A finely honed process of in-depth phone interviews, followed by detailed in-person interviews, commenced. Ultimately EAS identified three deeply matched final candidates.

The Result: The CEO had difficulty deciding whom to hire. He felt he could work well with anyone of the three candidates.  After further consultation with EASearch, he chose his new Executive Assistant.

One year later, EAS asked our Assess Management client to state one word which would describe life “after support”. He said, “Transformed”.

Why it worked: EASearch knows that in order to match the right Executive Support Professional, a wide variety of factors must be taken into account.  Our comprehensive Needs Assessment identifies those factors and allows us to develop the detailed profile of the successful candidate for you.  Our well-honed Search process utilizes both our proprietary database and a variety of other resources to identify the most deeply matched candidates for your needs.

 > EASearch is Expert in Finding Global Public Company CEO Executive Support

Client Profile:  Our client is the CEO of a Public, Multinational Corporation and a PhD Scientist.

The Situation: Our client had the same Executive Assistant for over 10 years.  Her support was highly effective. They were a strong team.   The EA decided to return to school for a graduate degree. The EA called EASearch for help replacing herself.

EASearch Solutions:  EASearch met with Human Resources and then interviewed the current EA and the CEO to learn more about the specific demands of the CEO's style and needs.  It became clear that the successful candidate would require previous experience supporting a CEO of a comparable company. In addition, the well-matched Executive Assistant to this particular CEO would have to possess the intelligence and communication style for effective support of a brilliant scientist.

The Result: EASearch recruited for this position from its proprietary, internal database of CEO Executive Support Professionals developed over 25 years in the industry. These candidates are only searching for the "right opportunity” with highly specific parameters. EASearch knows them well. These professionals are typically not actively “looking for a job”. The right candidate was located and hired. The position was successfully filled.

> How EASearch Needs Assessment & Training Services Led to the Right Solution

Client Profile:  Our client is a small, high profile architectural and interior design company. The Founder is also the Lead Designer of the firm. Our client has many balls in the air with numerous projects in the pipeline.

The Situation: Our client had an Executive Assistant who had supported the Founder for many years before being promoted into another position at the company. Upon the promotion, the Founder hired a replacement Executive Assistant.  Within a two year time frame, our client had hired four “wrong” Executive Assistants for the position. The high turnover of such a critical support position had a debilitating impact on the Founder as well as the entire team.  The design firm’s professional consultant had met and experienced EASearch at another client and recommended that this client call us.

EASearch Solution: EASearch was hired due to our expertise in Assessment and Search in the specialty area of Executive support. A Needs Assessment was conducted. EASearch interviewed the Founder, the COO and the leadership team, the design team, the accounting team, the administrative team and the former Executive Assistant. Through its Assessment, EASearch was able to clearly identify the Founder’s personal and executive support needs, style, strategic plans, as well as developing clarity for the company’s culture and values. A detailed and thorough job description for the Executive Assistant to the Founder was created.

The Assessment revealed that the company would benefit from in-depth interviewing training. The interviewing had not included behavioral based interview inquiry.  This was one of the many reasons the wrong people had been hired.

The Follow-Up: Upon reviewing the Assessment results, the company retained EASearch to execute the search for an Executive Assistant to the Founder. In addition, EASearch trained the Managers in Selection & Interviewing Techniques. The result was that the right Executive Assistant was hired for the Founder and all is well.

The Client: Our client is a highly successful Businessman and Philanthropist.

The Situation:  A very competent Financial Manager in charge of highly complex systems had been with the organization for over 35 years.  Because of the critical nature of her knowledge and expertise, our client had realized that succession planning for her position was imperative. The challenge was big as our client didn’t really know who or what he needed.   In addition, the company was small and fiercely loyal to its employees so that the search was akin to that of recruiting for a new member of the family.

EASearch Solution:  EASearch has strong partnerships in all specialty areas of Executive Search. EASearch partnered with a high-level financial search firm that we had known for 25 years.  We work together to assess needs, coach the Financial Manager, redefine her role, clarify the specifications for the new position, and find the new employee.  Together the partnership performed the Needs Assessment to better identify the specific financial skills and related experience required as well as to understand the family, office dynamics, and culture. Our Partner Financial Search Firm had years of experience assessing and recruiting senior level financial professionals and had cultivated a wide network of candidates in that specialty area. The Financial Manager was re-employed as Chief of Staff to the family and the right CFO was hired to assume her financial management responsibilities.

Why it worked: We know some of the best search firms in all specialty areas.  Our partnerships guarantee that the client is introduced to the most relevant Executive Search resources.  Utilizing our strategic search partners guarantees results at the most Senior Executive level.

> How Our Specialized Training Improved Morale & Led to the Right Hire

Client Profile: Our client, former CEO of one of the best known companies in its field, founded a new company after the sale of his former company.  The CEO asked his former second Executive Assistant, if she would consider working for him as his first Executive Assistant at the new company. She accepted the position.

The situation:  The Executive Assistant was challenged in the role of first Assistant to the CEO. The relationship between the CEO and the Executive Assistant deteriorated over time.  The company was small and this poor working relationship was having a negative impact on the CEO, the EA, and the rest of the employees. One of the key values of the company is loyalty to its employees, who are considered “family”.  The HR Director knew that something had to be done. She knew that it was imperative to improve the support relationship for the well-being of the CEO and company morale. This would somehow have to be done without compromising the value of loyalty. Because of Leni Miller's relationship with the former company, the HR Director called EASearch for consulting help.

EASearch Solution:  EASearch began a consulting assignment to assess the CEO support requirements relative to the strengths and abilities of the current support professional.  The results of the Assessment determined that the current support was not meeting the needs of the CEO. It was important to the CEO that the Executive Assistant be given every opportunity to succeed. EASearch recommended training for the employee by a senior level Executive Assistant Consultant. Our trainer shadowed the EA for six weeks and provided training in processes and procedures most effective for CEO support.

The Result:  After about six weeks of training, the current Executive Assistant decided that she was better suited for another career and resigned from the company. The company was able to maintain its loyalty to its employee and the former EA has a new career which is better suited to her talents and aspirations.

Next Steps: Upon the Executive Assistant’s resignation, EASearch was again retained to conduct a search for a new Executive Support Professional. The search resulted in hiring a deeply matched Executive Assistant who possessed the experience, talent, ability and desire to effectively support the CEO .
